What a great party! Hundreds of happy people of all ages, TV news coverage, fabulous creative apparel, singers, dancers and lots of fun. Designers outdid themselves with amazing couture creations and fun accessories including condom pendants, earrings, a parasol, headband, hats and more. Guests bid on these items throughout the evening in a silent auction with proceeds supporting the non-profit health center CHOICES.
Guests voted 2013 winner Clara Seigler First Place in Apparel Design again for her intricate short cocktail dress in black with gold “lace” fabricated from condom-packages. Second Place went to Ashley Whitten Kopera for a gorgeous fifties-inspired strapless dress with blue, green and purple condom-ruffles. A glamourous fitted, dark-red gown that resembled distressed leather won Third Place for designer Amie Eoff.
An expanded event this year included free photos with condom-themed accessories by HotShots Photo Booth, a Cabaret featuring vocalist Lee Taylor and the Tennessee Vaudeville Review, and a flash mob by Project: Motion that had the crowd on their feet.
More than 40 individuals, small businesses and corporations served as event Sponsors, including The Memphis Flyer, archer>malmo, Fish and Associates, Primary Care Specialists, OraSure Technologies, Pavo Salon and Spa, Roaring Tiger Vodka, Cosmic Coconut, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, and Gilead Sciences.
After expenses the 2014 event raised over $16,000 which will support CHOICES’ reproductive health education and patient assistance programs.
