Dr. Kahn speaks on the religious, social, and historical relationship between Judaism, abortion, and reproductive rights. Jewish women have a strong history of participation in the civil and women’s rights movements. She highlights the ways in which Judaism emphasizes the primacy of women’s mental and physical health and the Rabbinic support for access to reproductive healthcare for women across the years since the 1950’s. She reviews Jewish Law and philosophy related to abortion and discusses the pathways open to Jewish women in today’s religious and secular worlds. Dr. Kahn presents from a variety of Jewish and secular sources to create a meaningful picture of the ways that our community can further promote access to reproductive care as a current human rights issue.
